In this video I talk about what it’s like to go on my first handful of interviews for tech jobs since graduating from the Guild of Software Architects a few weeks ago. I discuss my preparations for my first job as a mobile UI Designer and how I have evaluated my other job prospects. There are many things to consider with your first job in tech- what language you will be coding in (or if designing what software you’ll be using on the job), what type of work you will be doing, what mediums, what size of a company, what type of company, the working environment, the benefits, the terms, etc. There is a lot to consider!
In this video I talk about my belief that life rewards action, how I learned to ask for what I want, finding mentors, tailoring my resume, awkward job fairs, and how graduating from bootcamp is the point when you realize the work has just begun!
I made this video in response to a question in the comments of my last video. The question was should someone learn a backend language if they want to be a front end developer. I encourage you to check out my answer to the comment but also if you’re curious about this watch this video for my fully fleshed out response. In this video I also talk about the upcoming programs at my bootcamp the Guild of Software Architects and my future goals of being a user interface animation designer/developer and a Free Code Camp Evangelist.
Also! Announcing that my husband has decided to take the Android Development bootcamp course at the Guild of Software Architects at the end of the month! They have plenty of space if anyone is looking for a mobile dev bootcamp in a competitive market! There’s an iOS coming up in the spring of 2017 as well but I hear that one is filling up a lot faster.
Aaaand… I am graduating this week and actively looking for a job if anyone knows of one please let me know 🙂
I am so proud to announce that my team made up of other ladies in my bootcamp cohort won second place at the Women In Tech Demo Day in Plano today. Above is a picture of us getting some expert UX advice from a designer from CapitalOne and a silly shot of all the participants. I was actually sought out to give advice from an aspiring designer so I decided to share that advice here as well. Also, I had an interview with CourseReport about my experience as a student at The Guid of Software Architects so check it out!
I’ve been continuing with my job search and trying to get an Apple developer account! I’m also still working on my Cupcakes Cubed app and thinking about trying to sell it to a different bakery at this point. I’m attending a talk with Ken May from Topgolf in Dallas tonight so hopefully will learn a thing or two about entrepreneurship. I’ve been thinking about the possibility of working for the Guild of Software Architects managing graduates after they finish with the bootcamp and also about starting my own design and development company in the future.
In this video I talk about looking for jobs and what I’ve been doing. I’m now at the tail end of my bootcamp and juggling multiple apps, preparing for my first hackathon, attending Women Who Code events and starting a new book on code.
I’ve gotten a lot of questions about what goes on at my bootcamp. I try to cover how the curriculum is structured and delivered in the iOS course at the Guild of Software architects mobile app development bootcamp in Frisco, TX. Thanks for watching!
